Phone Confide - Lottery Success!!!

Volunteers and staff at Confide Counselling Service are celebrating after securing almost £10,000 from Big Lottery Fund to develop a new telephone counselling service. The funding will be used to purchase specialist telephone equipment and train staff and volunteers to provide counselling over the telephone to vulnerable and disadvantaged clients.
Chief Executive Janet Radford said the funding would make a huge difference to some of the most hard to reach clients in the county. “Shropshire is a deeply rural area and for those without a car getting to the centre of Shrewsbury for an appointment can be time-consuming and costly, this service will enable our clients to have their therapy from wherever it is most convenient for them. In addition this will make life easier for our clients who are disabled, living with a long-term health condition or for those with caring responsibilities who simply find it difficult to leave their home”. It is hoped that the new facilities will also reduce the number of missed or cancelled appointments “We often see people who are suffering from anxiety to such an extent that leaving the safety of the home to come to their appointment is too much of a challenge and they can go several weeks between appointments, to be able to offer the client the alternative of having their therapy over the phone will make sure that the people that need support can still receive it. The continuity should help them to recover earlier.”

Confide continues to support community Well-being Events - 13th September 2016

We have been very busy over the summer attending a number of community and employee well-being days. Our staff and volunteers have been travelling round the Shropshire countryside taking with us lots of information and promotional materials to support people to take care of thier mental well-being. Chief Executive Janet Radford said it was really important to raise awareness of mental health and how to take care of it "People often think about thier physical health but its equally inportant to be aware of our mental health. Shropshire has quite high rates of mental ill-health and suicide when compared to the rest of the West Midlands, we want to make sure everyone knows how to contact us if they feel they would benefit from counselling."

11th June 2016 - Frances Completes her Challenge!

Frances has completed her challenge which saw her walking in excess of 50 miles and climbing to 12,000 feet over some of the most rugged and remote landscape in Wales. After 3 days in total isolation with only the sheep and skylarks for company, Frances decended into Barmouth at the end of her journey.  Frances is pictured at Barmouth Harbour enjoying a well-earned ice cream. We are extremely grateful to Frances for choosing Confide to benefit from the sponsorship. There is still time to donate.

23rd May 2016 Frances Butler to walk miles to raise funds for Confide

Frances Butler is one of Confide's Copunsellors - not content with volunteering her time to support people in her professional capacity she is now doing Frances's BIG Walk to raise funds.  Frances will be walking from Glyndyfyrdwy over the Berwyn's and down into Barmouth - some 50 miles of rough, mountain terrain. But Frances is undaunted "I enjoy mountain walking. The freedom of big skies, solitude and wilderness is good for the soul. Right now I'm feeling fitter than usual so this big challenge should work out. It will be lovely to be out in the wilds for 3 and a bit days - I just hope the sun shines on me! I've talked about walking from Glyndyfrdwy, on the A5, across the Berwyns, Arans and Cadair Idris to Barmouth for a while. Now I'm going to do it. 50 miles and 12,000 ft of climb with all my eqipment & food will take quite an effort but excites me to action." We are extremely grateful to Frances for her fundraising effots and a number of the Confide team will meet Frances en-route to cheer her on. You too can support Frances by sponsoring her via the MyDonate Website here . Good Luck Frances!
